New training, problem-solving firm opens downtown

One of downtown Lockport’s newest businesses aims to help other companies improve their practices through better teamwork and communication. The Space Between, a training and problem-solving workspace, opened last month in 12 and 16 West Main St.

The company, which is an affiliate of the J. Fitzgerald Group, offers rentable space for a range of offsite meeting and training sessions.

 J. Fitzgerald Group President Jack Martin said he started The Space Between, in conjunction with fellow partner Carmel Cerullo-Beiter, as a way to meet the internal needs of clients — an issue they heard about frequently at the advertising agency.

“We’ve operated an advertising agency at the same site for 16 years and the one thing we’ve always heard from clients is that they needed help solving internal company issues to improve their teams and marketing efforts,” Martin said in a statement. “We’ve conducted focus groups, brainstorming sessions and company meetings around the world via the agency, but now we’re giving companies everywhere a chance to bring their teams to our space for intensive workshops so they can better attack and solve issues.”

The Space Between — billed as the only facility of its kind in Western New York — offers guided brainstorming session, problem solving, team building, planing assistance, focus groups, marketing strategy development and space for rent.

Their facility includes two large meeting rooms that feature full wall white board and copious games and activities, resembling a café or brewery more than an office building. They also offer a game room, an in-house pub and a deck overlooking the Erie Canal.

The Space Between will also offer after-hour packages to allow teams to visit area attractions, such as Niagara Falls, boat or wine tours or zip-line and ropes courses.

Martin said this means The Space Between will offer opportunities for cross-promotion with other area businesses and attractions.

“We’re trying to cross-promote with other businesses in Lockport so we can get people from all over the place to Lockport and to explore the county,” he said. “Everything seems to be focused exclusively on the rebirth of Buffalo, but we’ve got a lot (in Niagara County) that’s unknown to people still.”

The Space Between will hold its official grand opening Nov. 16.
