Learning to retool our thought process
As an advertising agency, J. Fitzgerald Group (JFG) does brainstorming and creative problem solving all day – every day. Trying to digest information from clients, come up with suitable proposals, and then working out creative solutions that achieve results is the entire purpose of the agency. But even people who do this type of work for a living need to take a step back sometimes and rethink
Anaylzing our thinking profiles
The first thing we did was have our team take an online profile test, the FourSight® Thinking Profile developed by Dr. Gerard Puccio that determined our thinking profiles. Everyone approaches problems differently – and everyone has strengths and weaknesses along the way. By identifying where each of us excelled – and where we needed help – we were able to better understand how to align our teams as we approached problems. Some people need tons of information; some just like to create; others like to refine; and others like to implement. How you use those talents within a team helps you become far more effective – and gives you the tools to overcome your deficiencies.
let the games begin
During a full-day session in Towpath Hall, the entire JFG team met collectively as well as in breakout groups to tackle complex problems facing the agency. Dr. Puccio guided the session skillfully – using his FourSight® process. We were able to put hundreds of ideas everywhere – on walls, doors, you name it. Then came time to start refining our thinking until we came up with a solution that made sense – and could be easily implemented. Since the session, our approach to everything has changed – how we shepherd projects through the agency; how we interact with each other; and how we better serve our clients. But creative problem solving is something that requires practice and refreshing – so another session is on the horizon for JFG already.
Problem solving has never been so fun.
